Infiniti M Hybrid

Infiniti M Hybrid Makes History

Low emissions, high performance

Take it from Guinness World Records® and two top Formula One drivers: Infiniti M35h is truly the high-performance hybrid.

Infiniti M Hybrid set the mark as the world's fastest-accelerating full hybrid car, and it showed two Red Bull F1 teammates a few things in a match race at Germany's famed Nürburgring.

Check out inspired hybrid performance in these videos. You can view more about M Hybrid at the Infiniti Europe YouTube channel.

An Electrifying Race

Red Bull Racing teammates Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber went head-to-head to mark the start of the hybrid's European sales. They brought an M35h and M37 S Premium to Germany's notoriously difficult Nürburgring racetrack for a thrilling race.

Infiniti G25

2011-Infiniti-G25-Just-In

The Infiniti G37 sports sedan is one of our favorite cars here at Consumer Reports Auto Test Center. It's not common to find a car that's comfortable on a long trip, as well as being an entertaining, drift-king around the track.

But the G has long occupied an unusual place in the market. Unlike rivals BMW 3 Series, Lexus IS, and Mercedes C-Class, the G never offered a lower-powered version. Instead, it carved out a niche by selling lots of power at a price comparable to the base-engined competition.

Still, you have to wonder. When most compact sports sedans are used to ferry professionals on their daily commute rather than racing around a track, the ability to go 0-60 mph in the G37's 5.6 seconds gets lost in the wash. However, a lower lease price and better fuel economy can mean a lot to this buyer, especially in a down economy.

Hence, Infiniti brought out the G "Light," the G25. What do you give up? A whopping 110-horsepower (218 vs. 328). Option availability is less, too. Features like a power telescope steering wheel, seat memory, Bose stereo, and power lumbar adjustment are unavailable on the G25. A bigger omission is that, oddly, you can't get factory navigation. While Infiniti makes one of the best factory navigation systems in the business, most of us would probably just get a $150 portable navigation device, anyway.

It's hard to call our rear-wheel drive G25 Journey austere; after all, it has HID headlights, Bluetooth, iPod control, a backup camera, and dual front power heated leather seats. We added the moonroof, a $1,000 option, for a total MSRP of $34,225.

What do you save? The G37 forces you to get an expensive option package to get a moonroof, so comparing Journey-trim-level cars without a moonroof shows a $2,700 difference. EPA estimates also show the G25 with a one mpg advantage in overall fuel economy.

So is the G25 a case of "drives great, less filling?" Are the fuel economy gains persuasive? Or will we miss the G37's potent power and added amenities? Now that we have purchased a G25 for our test fleet, we'll soon find out.
